Mono

A while back lupus did a great job of porting mono to run on arm. I did some raw experimenting over the weekend and managed to get the whole C# gtk stack running on the N800. The initial impressions are very positive – pretty fast startup time, low memory usage.

Since now all the bits are figured out, the only thing left to do is the boring task – correct packaging & handling of the whole debian mono tree. We clearly need a real hero here…

This is realy cool !! :D

Keep up the good work !

Talk to us on #debian-mono. Rolling the package in scratchbox should not be hard if all the eabi bits are sorted out.

I thought [M is for Murder] (http://imdb.com/title/tt0046912/), but obviously nowadays we know a bit more than Hitchcock. Good job!

when there will be available some kind of package of mono for new OS on nokia?! .deb, tar.gz - anything.. i bought n770 mostly because of mono and for most of the time I cannot use it because of lack of package for 2006 OS..

This is very nice. I hope n770 will be also supported.

Waiting also for running Chronojump in my 770

Great work!

@mike: Yes, it works on 770 too.

@shw: We’re working on the packaging. In the mean time I’m going soon to publish some ugly tarballs to get started/experimenting.

@Brandon: Yes, I’ll get back to you guys. The only different (than debian) bit is the virtual machine itself – we want to package it as a devkit so that in the SDK it always runs on i386, even on the arm target. The quemu is buggy and breaks when trying to emulate the whole VM (besides, that would not make much sense). I checked the devkit solution and it works perfectly. Just need to nicely package it.

that’s great mdk - thanks - at last I will be able to use mono on my n770.
